BEJAN HANDMADE LURES FROM ROMANIA

My name is Paul Bejan, I live in Arad, Romania and I’m 34 years old. I’m married and I have an 8 months son. I graduate university of journalism and I’ve got some sales jobs but in the late 20’, I found my path and I decided that my passion for lures can’t be feed just if I’m doing this for full time.

My home city (West Romania) has been blessed with Mures River, the place where I begun to fish in my early youth. Those times the river was rich in fish like barbel, zander, asp or european catfish. Like my pals, I used to fish for coarse fish at the beginning  but quite often, big asps or zanders used to strike in the surface the minnows that we try to catch. Then I decided that I want to go big and try to catch predator fishes.

Like everybody else I started fishing with “Rapala”, “Salmo” and some domestic lures called “Cozma”. Those lures gave me big satisfaction, but I knew there’s more. I had  a couple of friends that were making their own lures and I decided contact them. I got some ideas, I made a serious research on the internet and I started to make my own lures. It was around June 2002. I still have my first lure, it wasn’t the best, but it was goodish ☺ and I’m not using it anymore because it became to precious. ☺

I tried to customize my lures for every situation that I’ve encountered on the water. For big predators with teeth, I make hard body resin lures or foam and for the others like trout, asp, chub or perch, balsa wood is my favorite. Nothing compares with the natural movement that balsa wood provides.

During the time I use to fish in several European countries and my needs were direct proportional with the experience that I gained. I use to fish on brooks for trout in Cornwall (UK), for pike on German lakes and England canals, for trout in Italy’s  Apennin mountains and of course for zander, catfish and asp in the big rivers from my country.

I’m a big fan of light fishing and in the summer time most of the time I spend on water, I spend luring the trout, chub or perch. Doesn’t mater if it’s on river or lake. As a matter of fact better on a lake situated up in the mountains because its cooler in the summer time. ☺

Of course I like fishing for big predators as well. Jerkbaits, crankbaits or topwater baits are the main choice when we’re talking about big pikes. I always was fascinated about big jerkbaits that american lurebuilders are making for Musky. I like them because they don’t have a lip but they have such a natural swim. As a rodbuilder I like them because these are made for big predators decided to eat and this offers you the possibility to paint them as your fantasy inspires you and most of the situations you won’t be wrong. Alive colors and psychedelic colors always get the predators insane. And one more thing: it’s easier to paint a gill of a 5 inch plug instead of a 2 inch minnow. ☺ That’s why I started a project of a big jerkbait dedicated for pike and musky. About this, maybe in a future article!

I started making lures in 2002 and I sold the first lure around 2008. A more serious business started in 2014. I’m still a small producer (around 60 lures monthly) because all my lures are handmade and hand-painted even if I got some models molded in foam or resin. I reckon that every lure needs attention to details and that’s gonna charge it with a special energy compared to a series one.

In the late 10 years I lived in Romania, UK, Italy and back to Romania and everywhere I’ve lived I carried with me all the necessary hardware for making lures. I reckon that’s the definition of passion and that’s why I say that my lures are more special than others. Because I make lures with passion.

I want you to know me first that’s why I spoke generally about me and my passion. If you want to know me trough my lures don’t hezitate: message me on Facebook (Bejan Handmade Lures or on email: PaulBejan1@gmail.com
